Last weekend team Buffalo faced the mammoth challenge we set ourselves of climbing the Yorkshire 3 peaks for the Candlelighters charity, and what a huge challenge it was.
I think we may have all slightly underestimated the scope of the challenge when we signed up. It took a real team effort and some serious personal will-power in order for everyone to achieve what they did. From 4am wake up calls, to climbing a total of over 5,000ft in 12 hours, there was a variety of challenges we all had to overcome but we did it!
With quite a few sections that many of use found quite hard going, as no one ever mentioned that you had to physically climb certain sections in order to reach the peak; but the great views provided an excellent excuse to have a quick breather and to take some photographs before we carried on. We were lucky that we had the weather on our side, which really helped, as battling a downpour would have made the walk so much more challenging and the views not quite as rewarding.
The aching legs are well worth the views and knowing we’ve done our little bit in order to try and support the Candlelighters charity in helping change the lives of children with cancer in Yorkshire.
Most importantly, after we’d all completed the walk we rewarded ourselves with a nice refreshing drink in the pub afterwards, after all it was 24 miles!
But don’t let us put you off a lovely walk in the Yorkshire Dales, if you’re looking for a challenge we’d highly recommend you put yourself to the test. The Yorkshire Three Peaks is a demanding walk but hugely rewarding. Some of us are even mad enough to consider doing it again to see if we can better our time!
